Field Recordings (1995-2002)

A 13 track minimal/glitch album (51m 5s) — released October 28th 2002 on Touch

'Field Recordings' brings together a range of material Christian Fennesz has contributed to compilations, special projects and film soundtracks between the years 1995 and 2002. Also, for the first time on CD, it includes his debut 12' for Mego, the awesome 'Instrument', remastered, and a new track recorded specially for this release, 'Good Man'. It is his first release since Endless Summer [Mego, 2001] and a prelude to his next studio album, which will be released on Touch in January 2003.'

" Fennesz's computer-processed-guitar music is like listening to The Stooges or Velvet Underground words, tunes and rhythm track removed. Which seems perverse until you remember it's the the sound of that music - the fuzz, the feedback, roar and drone - that makes it so exciting, not just Iggy's eyeliner or Lou Reed's barbed observations. Some of the earlier tracks here are rooted in techno, but by the time you get to 'Codeine' - a cunningly titled remix of Stephan mathieu & Ekkehard Ehlers 'Heroin' - you realise this is the real future of rock'n'roll.**** - Tom Mugridge Muzik
