Eldfjall

A 9 track electronic album (35m 37s) — released April 25th 2005 on Touch

This CD consists of geothermal recordings of vibrations in the ground around the area of Krisuvik, Geysir and Myvatn in Iceland. The recordings have been carried out using accelerometers, vibration sensor microphones. These are stuck into the earth at various places around the geysirs, mapping the sonic aspects of volcanic activity at the surface of the earth. A stick can be attached, to be inserted into - for example - the earth at desired places. Eldfjall was recorded during January and August 2004. Biography: Born in Denmark and currently studying in Cologne, Germany at the Academy of Arts and the Media, Jacob is exploring sound in art with a scientific approach. Parallel to his studies, he has been giving lectures on sound and space at the Royal Architect Academy and at the Art Academy in Copenhagen. Aside from academics, Jacob collaborates with various artists on installations and resonances and has performed in Asia, America and almost all parts of Europe. He collaborated with Philip Jeck on the CD 'Soaked', after performing together at the Moers Jazz festival in Germany. They had never previously met. Jacob's sound works focus on investigations into the potential musicality in hidden sound layers in the environment. In this context he has been capturing and exploring sounds from volcanic earth, ice, atmospheric phenomena, nuclear power plants and deserted places. Recording tools used are accelometers, hydrophones and home-made electromagnetic receivers. Web: http://fonik.dk & http://secretsounds.dk'
